***Q&A with the creator***
What inspired you to create this podcast?
I was born in Romania and spent most of my childhood there, but my family immigrated to Canada before I had a chance to learn Romanian history in school. More than a decade later, I wanted to really understand the cultural legacies carried by my family as well as the experiences of the individuals and communities from that little part of the world from which I came. With my love of narrative history podcasts, I decided to create one of my own to share these stories with the wider world in English.
How long did it take you to make the podcast?
I spent eight months researching for the first season before writing the first episode, and I continued to do research as I produced each episode. On average, it takes me about 20 hours of work every week to research, write, edit, record, mix, and publish new episodes—more if I have to draw maps too. It takes a lot of time, but I want to deliver a polished product every time so that people don’t have to think about the craft behind it and can simply enjoy a well-told story.
What are some of your other projects?
I also write short stories and have been published in yolk literary magazine in Montreal. Whenever I have spare time, I do creative writing, and I’ll share stories in the future for those who are interested.
